Dubrovnik, often hailed as one of the world's best-preserved historical cities, is a testament to architectural grandeur. Its labyrinthine streets, ancient walls, and picturesque bell towers will leave you spellbound. George Bernard Shaw famously described it as "heaven on earth."
For those seeking a blend of adventure and relaxation, the nearby islands offer idyllic escapes. Just a short ferry ride away, Lopud and Sipan beckon with their sandy beaches, historical sites, and serene atmosphere. Explore medieval churches, summer manors, and the 15th-century Franciscan monastery on Lopud. Sipan, the largest of the Elaphiti Islands, provides a tranquil haven for relaxation and rejuvenation.
History buffs will find Korcula, the birthplace of Marco Polo, an irresistible destination. This beautiful island boasts a walled old town, perfect for leisurely strolls. Active travellers can indulge in windsurfing, hiking, and cycling, exploring the island's natural beauty.
Split, Croatia's second-largest city, is a captivating blend of ancient history and modern charm. The city's historic centre, Diocletian's Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, dates back to the 4th century. This Roman palace, built by Emperor Diocletian, forms the heart of Split.
Split is an ideal base for island hopping. From here, you can easily ferry to the enchanting island of Hvar. Explore the towns of Stari Grad, Jelsa, or Hvar Town. For a quieter escape, head to Brac, known for its stunning white stone architecture and the iconic Zlatni Rat beach.
Hvar, Croatia's most famous island, offers a perfect mix of natural beauty, vibrant nightlife, and relaxation. With its lavender fields, pristine beaches, and sunny days, it's no wonder Hvar attracts celebrities seeking a peaceful retreat.
Brac, while less crowded than Hvar, boasts its own unique charm. Its beautiful white stone buildings and the famous Zlatni Rat beach make it a must-visit destination for those seeking a more tranquil island experience.
Croatia is a country that is known to have a lot of beautiful locations to visit. Above all else, Croatia offers some of Europe’s most spectacular National Parks. Plitvice Lakes is at the top of the list which feature easy to walk walkways, dramatic waterfalls and enough photo opportunities to make your friends jealous.
Zadar is an amazing mix of old and new, a city to explore Roman ruins and architecture. Admire the solar-powered light show, enjoy some fine dining and watch a stunning sunset over the calming Adriatic sea. It’s also known as the gateway to the national parks, with a whopping four in close proximity.
Istria's history has given it Italian sophistication, more evidently seen in pastel-painted coastal towns like romantic Rovinj and historic Porec. Istria offers captivating scenery at every turn. There are rolling hills, vineyards, olive groves, monuments and medieval towns that date back to the 12th century. Istria is full of beautifully preserved sites that will take your breath away.
Why visit one country when you can visit two! Experience more sights, history, beaches and more with our multi-centre holidays to Croatia and Slovenia or Montenegro. A few miles from Dubrovnik is the compact yet beautiful country of Montenegro. The stunning town of Kotor sits proudly in the corner of its namesake bay. With a backdrop of steep hills, the historic part of town is famous for its old defensive walls and the twisting, paved streets it contains. A variety of palaces, museums and squares can be found here.
If you're looking for more of an active holiday, we recommend including Slovenia in your trip. This stunning country boasts beautiful destinations such as Lake Bled. Dramatic scenery awaits including its crystal green lake with solitary fairy-tale island in the middle, a cliff top castle and numerous day trip opportunities.
The Croatian tourism summer season kicks off in early May with many of the hotels open their doors at this time. Larger destinations such as Dubrovnik and Split will be buzzing with tourists, whilst the smaller villages and islands will generally open for business mid May.
With excellent weather and fewer tourists than peak summer, Croatia is an excellent destination during June. The cheaper hotel rates at the start of the month make it an excellent time in come.
Travelling to Croatia in July and August offers the perfect summer getaway. With great weather, great views and great people, we’re sure a Croatia holiday will make for unforgettable moments. September is similar to June offering excellent sunny days and balmy evenings, perfect for alfresco dining.
Whilst early September's hotel rates are still at their peak, mid to late September offers reduced prices and the warm weather we all crave. A holiday to Croatia in October has some great advantages, including cooler but still very warm days (up to 25 degrees), considerably lower prices.
Croatia has been blessed with a wealth of beautiful cities and towns that boast lots of history and culture, so why not incorporate some of this within your Croatian holiday.
