Croatia is home to many remarkable islands. You may wonder how easy it is to island hop during your stay in Croatia? Well, this post has the answers to all your questions.
Croatia is a beautiful country overlooking the vast Adriatic Sea. Its popularity as a holiday destination has grown over the recent years.
Why?
Well, its Mediterranean climate, many UNESCO sights to explore and of course, its fantastic coastline with all of Croatia's wonderful islands. Each island is unique and has its very own charm.
With all of the islands to choose from, many people ask us...
Is it easy to visit more than one island in one holiday?
Well, there is only one answer … Yes!
From the tranquil islands like Vis and Solta, away from the hustle and bustle, to the livelier and busier islands like Hvar, there is an island for everyone and every occasion. All the islands in Croatia are connected to mainland and some to other islands, via the efficient and cost effective ferry network.
For most travellers they will board their ferry from the mainland from either Dubrovnik, Split or Zadar. However, there are ferries operating from all of the big coastal cities, connecting the passengers to the popular islands. With Croatia being home to numerous ferry companies, the islands maintain good connections to the mainland all year round. In the peak holiday season of May/June to September/October, the companies put on more crossings…making island hopping a breeze from all the islands!

There are several ways to book and view the ferries available to you. You could book with a company, like Get by Ferry, which will list all ferry companies that run the route you wish to travel on the date you desire. Alternatively, you can book direct with the ferry companies, either booking in advanced or with some companies you can book on the day. However, it is important to note, these tickets are subject to availability.
There are different types of ferries available in Croatia, including car ferries and faster foot passenger catamarans. Private speedboats are also plentiful, making travelling between islands easier, due to less reliance on the ferries. So, if you're looking to travel under a time frame, or you would like a more luxurious way to travel, these might be what you are looking for.
It is important to note that the quieter, more secluded islands do have fewer transport links compared to the more popular tourist hotspots like Korcula, Hvar and Brac. However, for these peaceful retreats, having fewer connections only adds to the allure for travellers seeking relaxation and tranquillity.
All the ferry companies have the their routes and timetables available on the websites in the new year for the summer season (linked above). Travelling between the islands is simply like catching a bus!
